National Heavy Vehicle Regulator[edit]

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) is Australia’s independent regulator for all heavy vehicles. "We were established in 2013 as an independent statutory authority pursuant to the Heavy Vehicle National Law. Our vision is to have: A safe, efficient and productive heavy vehicle industry serving the needs of Australia."

Under Safety, Accreditation & Compliance, there is a section on Safety Management Systems. This section states "The executive officer of a business conducting transport activities has additional and specific responsibilities to take reasonable steps to ensure transport activities are conducted safely, eliminating or minimising hazards and risks."
